What Readers and Critics Are Saying

This book was an excellent read! You always know a great book when it’s difficult to put it down. Mockers was really insightful. I enjoyed learning much more about what it was like for my parent’s generation growing up. The challenges of growing up in the post war era, the music, culture and much more. I would highly recommend this book for a trip down memory lane or for those that want to learn more about what it was like in the swinging sixties!!

Loved this book, very nostalgic memories of a happy time in my life. Well written about about a different era, growing up in the sixties, The brilliant music, falling in love, getting married and the happy ever after, or not?
To use and old song ‘Fings Aint What They Used To Be’, sadly. The author (Will Grimsey) his writing shows sympathetic insight into the reality of growing up in that decade and beyond.

This is a fabulous story of love over three generations interwoven with a vivid portrayal of the social culture and changing face of Britain in the 1960’s. It is literally a “page-turner”. It is clear that the author is expressing his own profoundly emotional memories and experiences from his youth, giving this book an authentic feel.

A ‘cover to cover’ must read for post-war baby boomers in search of some therapeutic nostalgia. For later generations this book provides a fabulous insight into coming of age in the 1960s, well before the arrival of social media and other complexities of modern life.

It’s all there – the vibrant music scene and fashion of the time, alcohol, cigarettes, fast motor bikes, love and sex – all in colourful detail.

The story is cleverly wrapped in the poignant context of a dying grandmother sharing her life secrets with her granddaughter.

This book is evocative of an era and will appeal to anyone who came of age in the 60’s and was part of the coffee bar / juke box culture…or indeed anyone who missed out at the time and wants to feel the vibe.

I met the author, Will, on a cruise and found we had a lot in common not the least of which is a passion for motorcycles. I was curious about this book and glad I had read it. In the United States rockers were more familiarly known as hoods (hoodlums) because they tended to skirt the law. The book is a reminder of an era in changing values and mores.

Great read even if you weren’t around in the 60’s like me. Feels very nostalgic and the book does a great job of bringing the era’s atmosphere to every page. I like the real places and songs woven into a fictional story although it easily feels like it could be mini stories of the author’s real experiences stitched together. Recommend to read.
