Bringing Mockers – Love at First Bike to the Screen

A Cinematic Story of Passion and Defiance

Journey into the bold, rebellious energy of the 1960s — a world of sharp suits, roaring engines, and music that shaped a generation.

About the Screenplay

Mockers is a nostalgic coming-of-age drama that captures the intensity of first love, divided loyalties, and the social pressures shaping a new generation in 1960s Britain.

Framed by moments in late 2024, the story unfolds primarily between 1963 and 1966 in North London and Hertfordshire — a post-war Britain still living in the shadow of the Second World War. A generation born in the 1940s and early 1950s is coming of age, restless and determined to define itself apart from the values of their parents.

That tension fuels a cultural explosion — expressed through music, fashion, speed, and rebellion. At its centre are two rival youth movements: Mods and Rockers.

The screenplay follows Judy, an intelligent and ambitious young woman caught between worlds. She falls first for Jimmy, a charismatic Rocker whose life revolves around engines and freedom, and later for Terry, a sharply dressed Mod whose confidence and modernity promise something different. Set against seaside clashes, smoky dance halls, and the roar of motorbikes, their love triangle becomes a reflection of a society in transition.

Beneath the style and soundtrack, Mockers explores deeper themes of education, ambition, opportunity, class, and female emancipation in the decades following the war.

At its heart, however, the film is about energy and identity — two wheels, speed, music, rivalry, and the fashion that bound young people together as they carved out their own freedom. It captures a cultural moment that would go on to shape the second half of the twentieth century in the United Kingdom.
