After returning Judy resumed her Saturday job at the local supermarket. She had reinvented herself, through her appearance at least, as a Mod. Her hair was now tightly cropped, her clothes reflected the new Mod fashion. She was trying to be brave and get her life back on track. Her breast milk had not yet completely dried up causing some discomfort. The last thing on her mind at that moment was romance.
As she left the supermarket that first Saturday evening, she was confronted by Jess King sitting on his parked-up, mirror clad scooter smoking a cigarette. Jess had a big letter J on the front panel of his scooter. After some very corny chat up lines Jess, clutches his heart looks to the sky declaring that he has a J for Judy on the front of his scooter and that they were destined to meet. After more exchanges, Judy forces him to tell her his name. Thinking quick Jess shoots back, Terry. Yes, Terry that’s my name.
Later, when he comes clean about his deception, that his real name is Jess, Judy declares that he will always be Terry to her. Indeed, Jess became known as Terry from that moment for the rest of his life.
This upbeat song marks the start of a new life for Judy and eventually she will fall in love with Terry, marry and spend the rest of his life together. This is almost a Mod anthem, full of swagger, energy and noise.
