The relationship between Judy and Jimmy blossomed with regular nights out at the Busy Bee café, shooting pinball and playing the wonderful music of the era on the Juke Box. The Shadows, Dave Clarke Five, Elvis, Dusty Springfield, Billy Fury, The Animals and Sandy Nelson to name just a few of the artists that pioneered the early sixties music in the UK.
After these heady evenings of fun and laughter, Jimmy would take Judy back to Letchmore Heath on the bike. Judy had deceived her parents by pretending to go to Gerry’s house, whilst Gerry lied to her parents so she could ride with Jokerman.
Judy and Jimmy would complete each date with kisses. First on the bike and later, on a secluded bench by the duck pond. Romance in those days was a voyage of discovery. There was no internet, smart phones or access to pornography as, regrettably, teenagers have access to today.
Everything was trial and error and often a little embarrassing. Judy and Jimmy longed for a moment of privacy together. That moment came when Jimmy’s mum went away to Ireland for the weekend. His father had been killed in the second world war before he was born. The house was empty for the weekend.
Judy and Gerry deceived their parents and stayed out the night with Jimmy and Jokerman. Both girls knew that they were moving into new romantic territory. This song captures that moment for Judy and Jimmy when they both moved up a gear!
